On March 30, 2023 we lost our dear loved one, Lidia Fernandes who was called into God’s Kingdom. She was born on December 25, 1945 on the island of Brava, Cabo Verde. She was preceded in death by her children Sabiliano Fernandes, Joaquin F. Silva, Constancia F. Silva, Joana F. Silva, Laura F. Silva, and Dominga F. Lima. She was also preceded in death by her parents Antonia Vital Fernandes and Antonio André Anacleto, sisters Arminda Fernandes and Maria Fernandes Nunes. Lidia is survived by her children Antonio F. Lobo and his wife Neida Semedo, João F. Silva and his wife Kelly Grace, and Guinelo F. Lima. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters Julia Fernandes who lives in Brava, Cabo Verde and Constancia F. Dagraça who lives in the United States. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Aaliyah, Angela, Angelo, Bradly, Brandon, Brandy, Damean, Geovanni, Jai-Ana Grace, and Tony. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins too many to mention. Special thanks and recognition to her cousins Alice Gomes, and Micaela Vieira (Tata).
Lidia migrated to the United States in 2000, living in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. She was characterized as a jovial person who related very well with everyone. Above all, her family and friends describe her as a loving and attentive individual who cared very much for all those around her. For the last year of her life, she enjoyed living in her own apartment, and was so proud of the dwelling that she constantly invited family and friends to see her apartment. Her pastime was watching telenovelas such as Rosa de Guadalupe. She would become so excited by the plots that it seemed like she was communicating with the actors. She was not a wealthy person by any means; yet she always tried to earn enough to send money, merchandise, or gifts for her children in Cabo Verde. Lidia will be surely missed by the many family members and friends whose great fortune it was to have known her.
The wake for Lidia Fernandes will be held on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at Keefe Funeral Home located at 5 Higginson Avenue, Lincoln, Rhode Island. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, located at 291 High St., Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Graveside Burial will immediately follow at Saint Mary Cemetery located 661 Prospect St., Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
